
Bertha Pitts Campbell was a lifelong activist, participating in a women's suffrage march in Washington DC in 1913;
the March on Washington in 1963; and a Seattle march for the Equal Rights Amendment in 1980. She was an early
Seattle civil rights worker, was a founder of the Christian Friends for Racial Equality and an early board member
of the Seattle Urban League. She was honored by the Washington State House of Representatives for her life
and work on May 11, 1987. On her 100th birthday, the King County Council declared it to be
Bertha Pitts Campbell Day throughout the county.
